- Who it is for
- Founders and product teams whose business has outgrown its identity, or who need a clear identity for a new launch.
- What they need
- A point of view they can act on: what the company means, how to express it, and what to give the people building the next website, pitch or campaign.
- What Sigil must prove
- A low price still needs visible judgment. Sigil’s own identity must show the quality and reasoning someone can expect from the work.
The positioning
For founders and product teams whose company is better than its brand, Sigil finds the one thing they mean and presses it into a complete identity.
Keep the name
“A mark charged with intent” gives Sigil a useful starting point. The identity should make that meaning visible.
Avoid the literal reading
The name can suggest magic or fantasy. Runes, occult symbols and mystical language would describe a different business.
One idea holds it together
Intent,
compressed.
Find what the company means. Remove what repeats. Give what remains a clear form.
The narrow type, compact seal and direct voice all follow that decision. Motion closes up and stops, rather than drifting or looping.
Why this direction
“Intent, compressed” connects the name to the work of a brand studio. The other directions helped define what Sigil should keep and leave behind.
- The proof room
- A galley-proof approach gave the review its numbered notes and “keep before cut” structure. As the whole identity, it felt more like an editor.
- The grant
- An office that issues marks gave the brand authority, but risked confusion with a trademark registry.
- Catalogue
- A label-like system suggested cataloging each brief. Its blackletter direction pulled the name too far toward the occult.
The idea becomes a mark
Start with SIGIL. Remove the repeated I, then fit S, I, G and L into a square. The seal is the brand’s method applied to its own name.
Remove the repeated letter.
Press the four letters into one mark.
- Give it space
- Leave at least one-quarter of the seal’s width clear on every side.
- Choose the right size
- Use the dedicated favicon at 16 px. Below 24 px, use the small master. Keep the horizontal lockup at least 96 px wide on screen.
- Keep the drawing intact
- Do not stretch, rotate, outline or add shadows to the mark. Keep it off busy photographs.
The original brief records a resemblance review. That review is not trademark clearance.
Typography
Each typeface has a job. The display face gives Sigil its character; the reading and data faces keep the work usable.
Sigil Press

Color has a purpose
Pale blue is the default ground. Klein blue gives larger brand moments their intensity. Dark text and quiet document surfaces make the details easy to read.

A voice people can use
Write like a designer talking to a founder across a table. Explain the reason for a decision. Be candid about a problem without mocking the work.
Be specific
Name what someone gets and what they can do next. Use real prices and useful details.
Keep before cut
Say what is working before explaining what should change.
Take responsibility
For an error or a refund, say what happened and what Sigil will do.
On the website
“Get a free brand review. See what to keep and what to change.”
Name the offer and explain what the reader will receive.
When a review is ready
“Your brand review is ready. Start with what to keep.”
Name the result and give the reader a useful place to begin.
When an address fails
“That address didn’t load. Check it, or send the document only.”
Describe the problem and the available next step.
After a refund
“Refunded. Here is what we got wrong.”
Confirm the action. Follow with a specific explanation.

Imagery with a clear subject
The mark appears out in the world. A blue-hour sky, flash-lit foreground, wide-angle distortion and grain give the images a recognizable treatment.
Use the actual product when explaining what someone receives. Avoid decorative still lifes that need an explanation.
Motion with a purpose
Use a 200 ms transition for controls and an 800 ms press motion for expressive moments. Environmental video can loop: let flowers and clouds move while the mark stays clear. Include a pause control and a still image for reduced motion.
